New law links DWI and BWI offenses in New York

Boaters who enjoy an adult beverage while operating a vessel on New York State waters will face more serious consequences if they are found to be boating while intoxicated after Nov. 1. An incident that happened over the weekend on Keuka Lake illustrates how a new law might make a difference.

A Brooklyn man who was driving a boat that crashed into a Bluff Point dock just after midnight on Aug. 28 could be fined up to $500 and may have the registration for his boat suspended when he appears in Jerusalem Court to answer the charges.
