Man stopped in Sodus, charged with possessing controlled substance

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts reports the arrest of a Rochester man following a traffic stop in the Town of Sodus.

Deputies report that Harold Johnson, 46, of Rochester was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, and unlawful possession of marijuana after a traffic stop in Sodus.

Authorities say Johnson was stopped on Route 104 for allegedly speeding — traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Upon further investigation into the stop it was found Johnson was operating his vehicle while his license was suspended for an alcohol related offense. As Johnson was taken into custody deputies found a small amount of marijuana on Johnson’s person.

Deputies also say that a search of the vehicle was executed, which yielded marijuana and paraphernalia.

Johnson was arraigned in Lyons Town Court where he was remanded to Wayne County Jail in lieu of bail.
