UPDATE: Palmyra man ID’d after taking his own life, setting house on fire

Police in Palmyra have identified the individual who set his house on fire before taking his own life this week. John Pulver, 50, of Palmyra was pulled from the destroyed home early Wednesday morning. 


According to reports, neighbors say that the individual inside the Palmyra house, which caught fire and burned down – intentionally set the blaze immediately before shooting himself. While the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has not yet confirmed this, reports out of Palmyra indicate that the entire circumstances around the blaze were described as “bizarre” by those who live in the area.

Police say a body was pulled from a burned-out home in Palmyra and weapons were found inside the home. The fire broke out on Prospect Drive around 10:30 Wednesday night. First responders rushed to try and rescue the person inside, but the intense flames pushed them out.

Fire crews eventually put out the fire and pulled the body from the home early Wednesday morning. While details are still scarce, updates will likely be provided throughout the day on Thursday.
