Man rescued from Lake Ontario near Sodus after jumping from boat

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts reports that on Saturday, the Wayne County Marine Patrol conducted a water rescue on Lake Ontario.

The rescue occurred just north of Sodus Bay Channel when Casey L. Weeks, 43, of Lyons jumped from a 1934 vintage 38-foot boat owned and operated by Norman H. Vanderbilt, 58, of Sodus.

Vanderbilt was unaware that Weeks had jumped until told by another passenger. He then stopped the boat, but the strong southerly winds began blowing the boat further away from Weeks.

Deputies located Weeks clinging to the life jacket about 150 yards from Vanderbilt’s boat. Deputies transported Weeks to the waiting Sodus Point Silver Waters Ambulance at the Wayne County Park launch ramp.

Weeks was checked by the ambulance crew who verified he was uninjured.

Deputies were assisted by the Sodus Point Fire Department and USCG from Station Sodus Point.
