Public hearing postponed in Seneca Falls; community forum to be held on Sept. 28

On Tuesday, Seneca Falls Town Town Board said in a press release that they would not be holding a public hearing on Local Law #7 at the end of this month.

The public hearing, which was slated for September 28th has been replaced by a community forum. The location of the forum has not been announced yet, but will run from 6 pm to 10 pm on Wednesday, September 28th. Prior community forums have been held at the Seneca Falls Rec Center, but with higher-than-typical turnout expected for this event – a different venue may be selected.

The Town Board’s statement can be read below:

“Based on verbal and written comments already submitted to the Town to date, and in order to properly comply with the requirements of the New York State Environmental Review Quality Act by completing an Environmental Assessment Form, and in order to allow the Town’s engineers a more complete opportunity to review the facts and circumstances underlying the draft findings of fact stated in the proposed local law, upon the advice and recommendation of the Town’s attorneys, the Town Board will be temporarily adjourning the public hearing on proposed Local Law No. 7 that is scheduled for September 28, 2016.

The Town instead will hold a Community Forum on the same date, Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.  Location to be determined.  The purpose of this Community Forum is to solicit public comment on proposed Local Law No. 7.  The Board requests that comments be limited to that subject.  Copies of the proposed Local Law No. 7 are available for review at the Town Clerk’s Office.”

FingerLakes1.com has learned that the board voted unanimously to adjourn, or ‘postpone’ the public hearing, which was slated for September 28th at 6 pm. There is no date currently set to hold a public hearing on the proposed local law. A public hearing is required by law to act on a local law, like the one that was proposed earlier.
