On Thursday, Cayuga County Legislature Chairman Keith Batman announced the resignation of Mark Farrell. Farrell, who was elected two times, will resign effectively on September 23rd to deal with what were described as medical issues. Those issues, in his estimation, would not allow him to perform his job to the level at which he believed the taxpayers deserved.
His statement read in part:
“…I am extremely humbled by the faith the voters placed with me in the last two elections. I do however realize the time commitment involved in doing the job to the fullest, and believe the tax payers deserve that time. I am experiencing medical difficulties which will hinder me in fulfilling my job requirements. I believe strongly in public service, and giving back, but I believe stronger that we all need to place our personal health and wellbeing first. This resignation does not come easily.”
Chairman Keith Batman released a statement Thursday afternoon, which read in part:
“We will miss Mark’s contributions to the Legislature and to the County. He has been an essential part of the leadership team this year and his departure will leave a hole difficult to fill. His many contributions and insights have added much to our deliberations. Nonetheless, we must accept his resignation and honor his request for privacy and so I will make no other comments”
