Cayuga County Legislature considers options for filling District 4 seat

Since Cayuga County Legislator Mark Farrell handed in his resignation on Thursday due to medical complications, legislators will need to decide the fate of his District 4 seat representing the town of Brutus.

The county’s Board of Elections said the deadline for the seat to be on this November’s election ballot was Sept. 20, two days before Farrell handed in his resignation. That leaves three options for the seat including leaving it open, allowing the Legislature to appoint someone until the next election cycle or holding a special election.
