Two minors charged with felony arson after setting vehicle on fire

On Friday, September 23rd at approximately 10:50 pm officers in Seneca Falls were called to Jimmer’s Auto for the report of a vehicle fire. The Seneca Falls Fire Department also responded to the scene, alongside the Seneca Falls Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle to be fully engulfed. The fire caused damage to two other vehicles, according to authorities. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Seneca Falls Fire Department.

An investigation into the cause of the fire was immediately launched, due to the suspicious nature of the blaze. The Seneca County Fire Investigation Team assisted investigators from the Seneca Falls Police Department in determining the cause of the vehicle fire.

Two unidentified 14-year-old males were subsequently charged with arson in the third degree, according to police. The charges are Class C felonies. Investigators say that the fire was started with a portable butane torch, which was in form of a handheld device.

The names of the individuals is being withheld, as they were charged as juveniles. They were both issued appearance tickets and will answer the charges at a later date. The pair was released to their parents.
