September 29th:

Wednesday night at about 7:41 pm a person was stabbed on Stewart Avenue in the City of Ithaca. A Media Release was sent regarding this stabbing. Chief of Police John R. Barber would like to assure the public that nothing developed so far has suggested that this stabbing is related to the Anthony Nazaire homicide stabbing in August. The two incidents genuinely appear to be unrelated to each other. Chief Barber stated “We have determined that the stabbing last night was not a random act of violence, and that the victim and the suspects knew each other. My Investigators are working vigorously to develop solid information regarding what occurred. At this very moment they are tracking down leads in the pursuit of justice. If you have any information that would aid the Ithaca Police Department in this investigation please contact us”.

Original Post:

Ithaca Police report that a Dryden man was stabbed in the leg after an altercation when he witnessed items being taken from his vehicle in Ithaca.

Officers say that they responded to the 400 block of Stewart Avenue for the report of a person who had received a knife wound following some type of altercation that took place outside — on a sidewalk — near the Cascadilla Creek Bridge.

The 27-year-old Dryden resident, who has not been identified — was visiting someone in the area when he observed subjects removing contents from his vehicle. An altercation ensued, between himself and two male subjects — when he received a knife wound to the leg.

The suspects fled on foot and the victim was transported by Bangs Ambulance to a regional hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. Police say that the victim, and incident are not related to the Cornell University incident that left one student dead.

The victim is expected to recover, according to police.

The subjects were described as two black males, one wearing a red shirt, while the other was wearing a ‘man bun’. Police are interviewing witnesses and looking to seek more answers about the incident. Both subjects were seen fleeing in the direction of City Cemetery.

One of the subjects may have a semi-automatic gun, according to police. They ask anyone with information to contact the Ithaca Police Department immediately with details.
