State Police are investigating a homicide, which took place on Joy Road in Sodus.
Authorities say that a woman’s body was located at her home on Joy Road. The body was said to be found on the deck of her home, with the victim’s dog crated with the door locked. In an update on Friday, WHEC reported that police had identified the woman as 57-year-old Josephine Chiaverini, of Sodus.
According to State Police the body was found after a wellness check was executed around 2:30 pm on Thursday.
13WHAM News reports that the woman’s neighbors said Thursday she had recently spoke to them about installing security cameras and that she was scared for her safety. One neighbor also said that she had recently separated from her husband. However, State Police have not made any connections, or named any suspects in the investigation.
New York State Police Captain Carolyn Mullin said that they would approach the investigation as a homicide investigation until they have evidence to support the contrary. The entire community remains on edge after the incident.
A police presence was maintained on the property throughout the evening and overnight, as experts combed the property for clues.
