UPDATE: One airlifted with internal injuries after serious accident in Phelps

New details have emerged after an accident at the corner of Griffith Road and Fort Hill Road in the Town of Phelps.

Deputies say that Heather Jo McGovern, 28, of Newark was traveling east on Griffith Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of Fort Hill Road. Jeffery M. VanCamp, 35, of Newark was traveling south on Fort Hill Road and could not stop before striking McGovern’s vehicle.

McGovern was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with internal injuries, according to authorities and VanCamp was also transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for a variety of body injuries.

McGovern will be issued a ticket for failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign, according to deputies.


Authorities in Ontario County report that a two car crash in Phelps resulted in four people being hospitalized.

The accident involved two vehicles and happened around 10 am. Officials point out that a vehicle traveling east on Griffith Road failed to stop at the intersection of Fort Hill Road.

The eastbound driver, who was operating a 2012 Kia, was t-boned by another vehicle. The second vehicle did not have a stop sign, and it appears as though the vehicle was struck on it’s driver’s side.

The Kia reportedly slid into a field, while the truck rolled over striking a telephone pole.

All four individuals were hospitalized. The driver of the Kia was airlifted via Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening internal injuries.
