Lodi man ticketed after crash on Route 96A in Ovid

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday, October 14th at approximately 9:50 am Matthew L. Applegate, 31, of Richmond Hill was traveling westbound on State Route 96A in the Village of Ovid when he was struck by another vehicle.

Deputies report that Applegate was struck by the second vehicle, which was being operated by George N. Wiggins, 64, of Lodi. Deputies say that Wiggins was eastbound and had stopped in the oncoming lane and was waiting to make a left turn into a local business. Wiggins then attempted to turn and struck Applegate.

Ovid Fire Department and South Seneca EMS responded to the scene and assisted. Applegate was uninjured and Wiggin’s was treated at the scene and transported to Cayuga Medical Center by South Seneca Ambulance for head and neck pain.

Wiggin’s was issued a uniform traffic ticket for failure to yield the right of way and is due in Ovid Village Court on a later date.
