Tree-killing oak wilt found in Canandaigua

Oak wilt, a fungus that kills those stately and often beloved trees, has been discovered in two oaks in a rural area of Canandaigua. The Ontario County town is only the third place in New York state where the fungus has been found, and the state Department of Environmental Conservation said Tuesday it will issue an emergency order in hopes of keeping the infection from spreading. State foresters are rushing to examine the area, hoping to identify other infected trees before winter sets in.
