Drunk driver rolls truck; causes power outage in Yates County

Penn Yan Police, Fire Dept., Ambulance Corps, and Municipal Electric workers were called out at 1:04 a.m. Oct. 26 to the scene of a rollover accident on Clinton Street near Walnut Street.

When officers arrived, they discovered a Chevrolet pickup truck against a tree. Driver Robert S. Johns II, 33, of Italy-Friend Road, Branchport, had been driving west on Clinton at a speed greater than the posted 30 mph, when his truck went off the north side of the street, striking a state highway sign and an embankment. It then crossed to the south side, destroying mailboxes, shearing off a utility pole, breaking another pole, crossing the street again, rolling on its side, and striking the tree.
