Manchester crash on Route 96 leaves 80-year-old hospitalized

An 80-year-old woman was hospitalized after a two car crash on State Route 96 in the Town of Manchester on Friday.

Deputies from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office say that a vehicle being operated by Viona Schroeder, 80, of Clifton Springs was traveling on Fallbrook Circle when she stopped at the intersection of Fallbrook and State Route 96 for a stop sign.

After stopping Schroeder pulled into the intersection and proceeded through it. She did not see a 2004 Pontiac, which was operated by Stephen Ross. He was traveling west on Route 96 and struck Schroeder’s vehicle causing extensive damage to both.

While Ross and his passengers were uninjured in the crash, deputies say that Schroeder was suffering from abdominal pain after the accident, which resulted in her being transported to Clifton Springs Hospital.

Schroeder was also issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
