Sodus man charged with welfare fraud after stealing over $9K in benefits

Deputies assigned to the Welfare Fraud Unit in conjunction with the Wayne County Department of Social Services, report the arrest of Reginald Currington, 47, of Sodus. An investigation was initiated by the Department of Social Services when it was brought to their attention that there were discrepancies in signatures on paperwork submitted.

Currington received $9,789.20 in benefits that he was not entitled to as a result of the submission of the falsified documents.

Currington was subsquently arrested for welfare fraud in the third degree, grand larceny in the third degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.

Currington is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date to answer to the charges.
