Cayuga County legislators hear budget requests at public forum

The Cayuga County Legislature’s public forum on the county’s budget started with an empty public section, but after a short period ended with three requests — one for the county’s Cornell Cooperative Extension, one for Owasco Lake and one for the Cayuga County Public Utility Service Agency.

Doug Ververs, executive director of the cooperative extension, asked legislators for $10,653 to use toward cost of living increases for staff. He said there has not been a salary adjustment in three years, and not including an increase in this year’s budget would make it four. He was concerned, he said, that he would “begin to lose a talented staff.”
