Under existing state law, anyone building a solar, wind or farm waste energy system is entitled to a property tax exemption. The Finance, Assessment & Insurance Committee of the Seneca County Board of Supervisors will consider a local law not allowing such projects to obtain that exemption.
Instead, the local law would provide for such developers to seek a Payment In Lieu Of Taxes or PILOT agreement as an alternative. If the committee approves introduction of the local law, it will go to the full board for a vote Dec. 13. If approved there, a public hearing would be conducted Jan. 10, followed by a final vote.
