W-FL Hoops: Red Creek, Red Jacket & Marion drop openers

A handful of Wayne-Finger Lakes high school boys and girls basketball teams were in action on Friday at both geographic ends of Section V. Warsaw and Red Creek are hosting their annual holiday tournaments and Friday’s results are below…

Red Jacket 54, Warsaw 56
Warsaw’s Ethan Grawe made 2 free throws with :03 left on the clock to hand Red Jacket a loss on opening night. Dan Brown and Travis Liberty scored 13 apiece for the Indians in the loss. Red Jacket will play Marion in the Warsaw Tournament’s Consolation Game on Saturday.

Marion 37, Pavilion 59 in Warsaw
Marion was led by Mike Phelps who scored 15 points on 5 three-pointers. The Black Knights start their season at 0-1 and will face Red Jacket on Saturday.

Cato-Meridian (III) 78, Red Creek 63
Nick Klein’s 20 points weren’t enough to lift the Rams at home on Friday night as they fall to Section III’s Cato-Meridian. Cato was led by 23 from Zac Jones.

In girls action on Friday, tournament host Red Jacket advanced with a 35-27 win. They will face the Mynderse Lady Blue Devils who won on Friday night. That game is set for 3:30 pm on Saturday in Shortsville.
