Feds threaten to cut highway funding over New York tourism signs along highways

The battle over the “I Love New York’ tourism signs continues. The 25-foot tall signs along highways promote local tourism and products, but the Federal Highway Administration claims they are unsafe and actually violate federal and state laws.

The federal agency says things from the lettering and symbols on the signs even to the spacing between each sign don’t follow standard protocol. Now the agency is threatening to cut funding for highway and bridge projects in the state if the signs are not taken down.
