The Town of Lyons along with the Lyons Main Street Program and community members are in the initial stage of developing a National Register of Historic Places district. The National Register is an honorary program, administered by the NY State Historic Preservation Office and does not place additional regulations on private property owners.
The Town of Lyons and Lyons Main Street Program are working with the Landmark Society of Western New York and New York State Historic Preservation Office to enlarge the current Broad & Water Streets National Register Historic District to include much of our downtown commercial core and residential properties. Expanding the boundaries of the historic district will allow more property owners in the district to take advantage of the State and Federal Historic Tax Credit programs. Additionally, the prestige of a National Register Historic District generally helps attracts tourists and new residents and can help support marketing efforts and encourage investment.
The intent of this meeting is to inform property owners what a National Register Historic District is and to answer questions and concerns that property owners have.
