W-FL Tuesday: Midlakes tops Gananda, Lyons drops 92 & Pal-Mac loses home opener

There were four games on Tuesday night that involved Wayne-Finger Lakes boys basketball teams and all four contests were won by the visiting team.

In Palmyra, the Red Raiders hit the court for the first time since coming up short against Newark at the Blue Cross Arena in the sectional Class B1 championship game in February. Pal-Mac hosted former Finger Lakes East rival Canandaigua and the Braves held off the hosts in a thriller, 56-52. Pal-Mac’s Hunter VanDeVelde led all scorers with 21 including 7 of 8 shooting from the charity stripe. Canandaigua’s Devin Andrews had 16 while Brian Hoffman added 10 in the win. Red Raider senior shooting guard Damien Wright scored 16 points.

In Marion, the Black Knights were steamrolled by the visiting Lyons Lions, 92-30.  Sophomore point guard Justice Smith scored 20 while junior Kerel Kelly had 19 points as the Lions improved to 2-0 to start the season. Jake Fiuco scored 11 for Marion who drops to 0-3.

An interesting FL East-Wayne County league crossover game pitted Midlakes against Gananda in front of the DAB Squad in Gananda’s home opener. Midlakes would disappoint the home crowd, however, and would head back to Clifton Springs with a 61-57 win. The Screaming Eagle defense would hold Enrique Mosman to just 12 points. Jayden Tasoricci would lead the Blue Panthers with 15. For Midlakes, junior point guard Bruce Burri led the way with 19 points while Sean Tillman notched 11 and Trevor Milliman had 9.

In western Ontario County, the only FL West team in action on Tuesday night, the Bloomfield Bombers, would fall 84-55 in their home opener to World of Inquiry despite five three pointers from Patrick Geitner. Geitner finished with 21 points but it wasn’t enough to hold off WOI who shot 66% from the field. CeyQuan Salmon led all scorers with 28 while teammate Charles Brown had 21.

In girls action on Tuesday night, 17 points for Naples’ Autumn Kunes wasn’t quite enough as Campbell-Savona would leave the Big Green’s gym with a 49-48 win. Also in W-FL girls action, Red Creek hosted Cato-Meridian and Clyde-Savannah was at Hannibal. We have not received a score report on these games but will update this page when the results are posted.
