Wayne County man admits role in crash that killed Palmyra couple

In a last-minute change of heart, the Wayne County man who caused a fatal motorcycle crash last year, hours after smoking marijuana, admitted his guilt moments before a jury was to be selected to hear his case.

In Wayne County Court on Dec. 9, Thomas Barto, 59, of Ontario, pleaded guilty to first-degree vehicular manslaughter, a class C felony; two counts of criminally negligent homicide, a class E felony; and driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, for causing the wreck that killed Palmyra residents James Eatherly, 49, and his wife Tammy Eatherly, 41.
