Oak tree-killing fungus spreads; remains a concern in FLX

State Department of Environmental Conservation officials say an oak tree-killing fungus is spreading to more places in New York. Earlier this year, oak wilt was discovered in Canandaigua, although town Director of Development Doug Finch said DEC officials told him they feel this was an isolated occurrence.

Still, a one-mile protective zone was established in the Ketchum Road area, Finch said during a Town Board meeting in December. The zone prohibits the movement of oak material out of the immediate area to prevent the fungus from spreading.
