Canandaigua City Councilor White charged with DWI, open container

Canandaigua City Councilor Karen White was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after officers found her with an open bottle of wine in the vehicle.

Canandaigua Police say the arrest happened around 7 pm on Tuesday when officers approached her vehicle investigating an unrelated incident.

Police report that she stopped her vehicle in a parking lot along South Main Street and White’s vehicle matched the description of one that they were trying to locate.

Karen White, 64, has been the 3rd Ward representative on City Council since she defeated Pete Van Denburg (R) in 2009. She was found to have a bottle of wine in the passenger seat of her vehicle. The bottle was open, according to police.

White was charged with driving while intoxicated, and according to officers had a blood-alcohol content of .08 percent.

She will answer the charge in Canandaigua City Court.
