Penn Yan woman accused of evidence tampering

Penn Yan Police say a 33-year-old resident attempted to hide a portion of drugs she possessed during an arrest.

The arrest took place on Friday around 1:19 pm. Officers say that Melissa Terwilliger, 33, of Penn Yan was charged with tampering with physical evidence, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance — a felony.

The charges stem from an incident where officers say she tried to conceal a portion of the drugs in her pants while those officers were working to secure all of the evidence. She was also charged with obstruction of governmental administration and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Terwilliger was arraigned in Penn Yan Village Court and was remanded to the Yates County Jail in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 bond.
