Geneva resident killed in crash on CR 4; two others seriously injured

One person is dead after a two-car crash on County Road 4, according to deputies in Ontario County.

Crystal Roche-Mercado, 30, of Geneva was traveling west on County Road 4 around 12:30 pm on Monday, approaching the County Road 20 intersection, when a vehicle being operated by Michael Nichols, 32, of Rochester failed to stop at the intersection. The two vehicles collided causing both to enter into a ditch on the south side of the roadway. Roche-Mercado’s vehicle then came to rest on an embankment.

Deputies say that a passenger in Roche-Mercado’s vehicle, identified as Eliezer Ortiz-Santiago was pronounced dead at the scene by Ontario County Coroner Michael John.

Roche-Mercado was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital for chest and head injuries. While Nichols was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Phelps Ambulance for head and leg injuries.

Seneca Castle, Phelps, and Hopewell Fire Departments all assisted at the scene. Officials say that the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office will review the case following the completion of the investigation.

shop is about 1/2 mile from this intersection. We moved in there Sept
of 2014. Since this date three people have been killed here and many
other accidents. These are just the ones we have seen ourselves. There
may be more that may have happened after hours. I personally called
Ontario County because I do not want our workers killed at this
intersection. I asked to put a light or a 4 way stop there. The county’s
answer to me was that they put these white strips on the road ( painted
on white strips that nobody knows what they mean) and that is to warn
you of a dangerous intersection and that the county will not spend any
more money on this intersection. I asked why they couldn’t put two more
stops signs up , not a big deal. Our employees see the accidents and
know to be careful but it is the other drivers I worry about. This
    intersection needs more attention.
