Auburn man charged after Barber St. stabbing on Sunday

An Auburn man has been charged with assault and possessing a weapon after an altercation on Barber Street led to one individual being stabbed.

The Auburn Police Department says that Sammy L. Sheffield, of Auburn was identified by police and taken into custody to be interviewed after the incident. Police charged Sheffield with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The victim hasn’t been identified, but police say that the 44-year-old had suffered a stab wound to his abdomen. The incident took place at 11 Barber Street and allegedly involved two men who were neighbors.

Multiple people were present for the altercation, which meant that police had plenty of witnesses to speak with regarding that incident. Some of those present say that two individuals went outside having an argument, and one of those individuals came back inside with a stab wound to the stomach.

The unidentified victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital and is expected to survive. The victim will be undergoing surgery late-Sunday for the stab wound.
