New Energy Works: Raising the roof – and walls in Farmington

Two winters ago a load of snow collapsed the roof of New Energy Works woodworking shop in Shortsville. Next week, New Energy Works Timberframers will not only begin construction of a new, much bigger building in Farmington for its fine woodworking division, NEWwoodworks, but the new, 21,000 square-foot building will mark a first-of-a-kind in New York state.

The structure at 1180 Commercial Drive will be the first Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) constructed building in the state to have both walls and roof made with CLT panels. CLTs are wood panels typically consisting of three, five, or seven layers of dimension lumber and exceptionally strong and sustainable.
