Consignment sale draws thousands of horse lovers from across state

The Countrymax Saddle and Tack Consignment Sale is just a week away, but there’s still time to drop off items to sell.

Known as the Black Friday in February in the equine world, the sale is next Friday and Saturday, February 24th and 25th. Countrymax representative Mandi Lenhard said people come from all over the state to buy and sell used equine equipment and supplies.

“I attended last year and even though I was told what to expect, I still couldn’t believe the crowd when we opened the doors,” Lenhard said.

Held at the Farmington store at 5930 County Road 41, draws thousands of people each year to peruse over 3,000 items for sale including saddles, bridles, blankets, bits, halters, chaps, breeches, boots, show clothing and more at discounted prices. Lenhard said people start lining up at 5 am no matter the weather to wait until the doors open and the sale begins at 8 am.

For more than 20 years, the sale has been a horse lover’s dream, Lenhard said. The first sale was held back in 1995 and has been a huge event ever since.

“The consistently strong attendance at our annual consignment sale shows the equine community is still strong in Upstate New York,” Lenhard said. “There’s no other event like ours in the area.”

Anyone who has used or new equine equipment need only clean it up and bring it to a store nearby. Stores accepting items for the sale locally include the Farmington location, Fairport at 897 Turk Hill Road and Ontario at 1298 Route 104. It costs $1 per item to sell something and a 15 percent consignment fee is charged for anything sold. Items for the sale are being accepted until tomorrow, February 19 no later than one hour before the store’s closing.

The sale will run from 8 am to 7 pm on Friday and 8 am to 6 pm on Saturday.
