Their motto was “Made Here, Made Better,” and by all accounts Vere Sandals lived up to those words.
The sandal-making business owned by John Eades and Michael Ferreri, two 1989 Geneva High School graduates, took leased space in the Geneva Economic Development Center on North Genesee Street and began manufacturing footwear that was not only comfortable and durable but also built in an environmentally conscious fashion. The enterprise also created a number of jobs.
However, the company’s high-quality products didn’t turn into profits, and Vere Sandals closed up shop last fall after coming to Geneva in 2010. The story could have ended there like so many other entrepreneurial efforts that fail to take hold for one reason or another.
