Submitted photo by witness from the scene.

A 74-year-old Waterloo man was traveling east on State Route 5, and was attempting a left hand turn – when deputies say his vehicle was struck by another traveling west on State Route 5 at the intersection with County Road 6.

The crash caused delays at the scene for some time after the crash, which happened at 11:22 am. The driver of the westbound vehicle, identified as Lynda Stanistreet, 55, of Waterloo was transported to Geneva General Hospital for treatment of back and knee injuries as result of the crash.

74-year-old Charles Nelson, also of Waterloo was not hospitalized, but deputies say was found to be at fault for failing to yield the right of way.

Deputies say both vehicles suffered extensive damage at the scene and were towed away.

White Springs Fire Department assisted at the scene. Photos from the scene show the impact of the crash and the type of presence that was seen at the busy intersection just a few moments after authorities arrived on scene.
