Interlaken man leaves scene of property damage accident; tracked down by K9’s

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on the February 17th around 7:00 pm deputies responded to a one car property damage accident the occurred on Southtown Building Road in Ovid.

Upon arrival deputies located a 2011 Chevy Equinox sunk down in the ditch on the east side of the roadway. The vehicle appeared to have been traveling south on Southtown Building Road when the vehicle drifted across the lanes and into the ditch.

Witnesses at the scene stated that the operator of the vehicle took off running. Sheriff’s K9 responded to the scene and tracked the operator of the vehicle to a residence on Southtown Building Road in Ovid.

The K9 then located the operator inside the residence bedroom hiding from law enforcement.

The operator was identified as Wesley E. Ahouse, 35, of Interlaken. He was taken into custody and issued several uniform traffic tickets —— which included leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failing to keep right and speed not reasonable.

Deputies report the Southtown Building Road homeowner did not wish to pursue charges. Ahouse was released and is to appear on March 10th at 10:00 am at the Ovid Town Court.
