Port Byron firefighters raise money to restore antique ‘Little Mo’ firetruck

Ervin Rooker said he was just a child when the Little Mo firetruck first rolled into Port Byron.

The 1954 Chevrolet was brought into the village fire department’s service on Nov. 27, 1954. Department volunteers still have the old brochures that describe the capabilities of the Little Mo, which is the moniker for that general model of fire apparatus.

Rooker, a 55-year veteran with the department who is now its fire police lieutenant, said Port Byron’s vehicle once served on the front lines, racing to scenes with a two-man crew to operate the truck’s top-mounted sprayer.
