A shot of history: Last Shot Distillery brings whiskey back to Skaneateles, Onondaga County

American whiskey is back in Skaneateles and Onondaga County for the first time since Prohibition.

Last Shot Distillery in Skaneateles plans to release its latest product, Skaneateles Whiskey Distiller’s Reserve, on Saturday, March 18, out of the 4022 Mill Road building adjacent to the Charlie Major Nature Trail. It’s a facility that served as the site of the Earll & Kellogg distillery from 1840 to 1864 when the nature trail was a length of the Skaneateles Short Line Railroad.

“We’re just going to celebrate whiskey back in Skaneateles,” said Chris Uyehara, Last Shot’s owner and distiller. “We’re the first legal brown whiskey (bourbon) back in Onondaga County since Prohibition. This is kind of bringing back the tradition of American whiskey in the area.”
