Geneva Town Board taking steps to be more ‘green’

In an ongoing effort to reduce its carbon footprint, the Town Board passed a pair of environmentally focused resolutions at its meeting Tuesday.

One was to create the position of Climate Smart community coordinator. Town Supervisor Mark Venuti said the town became such a community two years ago; Climate Smart is a state initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for climate change.

“There is state funding, and grants are available for concrete action to reduce our carbon footprint,” Venuti said.

Part-time town employee Jacob Fox, who has been coordinating the town’s Climate Start activities, was named to that role officially Tuesday. The town’s sustainability committee was designated the town’s “Green Team” to work on climate mitigation and adaptation.
