The Seneca Falls Police Department is pleased to announce that it has been named as one of the recipients of this year’s Seneca County Youth Bureau/Youth Board Golf Grant Award to help fund the department’s D.A.R.E. program.
Each year, the Seneca County Youth Bureau/Board hosts and organizes an annual golf tournament, with proceeds from the tournament providing funding for local youth programs, events and educational scholarships to Seneca County youth.
Proposals for the grants are submitted to the Youth Bureau/Board in December/January, which are then reviewed and selected for funding. Criteria for consideration includes the program/event are for Seneca County youths, ages 0-20, is a school or community-based program, and is for new and/or enhanced programs/activities.
Last year, the Youth Bureau/Board hosted its 21st Annual Golf Tournament to help fund programs and activities that benefit the youth of Seneca County. In the face of budget cuts across the county, many of these programs and activities cannot prosper without the assistance of outside agencies like the Youth Bureau/Board in order to purchase and gather all relevant materials and resources.
The Seneca Falls Police Department has one certified D.A.R.E. officer, School Resource Officer Christopher Denny, who is in his second year of teaching D.A.R.E. to the local fifth graders at Elizabeth Cady Stanton Elementary School. With this grant, coupled with generous donations from longtime D.A.R.E. supporter and business, Generations Bank, Officer Denny is able to purchase and provide the local fifth grade class with adequate materials and resources pertinent to D.A.R.E. instruction so that the children may make safe and responsible decisions for the future.
The police department is grateful to the Youth Bureau/Board for their efforts in continuing to promote positive youth development programs, including the D.A.R.E. Program, within the community.
