The Ontario County Memorial Garden was erected Friday on the lawn of the Ontario County Court House in Canandaigua as Crime Victims Week began in Ontario County. The Memorial Garden represents lives lost in Ontario County due to impaired driving over the last 31 years. Each person is remembered with a monument made by students at Finger Lakes Technical Center in Flint.
Three names were added to the garden this year, according to Sue Cirencione, Ontario County STOP-DWI administrator, bringing the total to 169.
The goal is to lift families and loved ones of people who have lost their lives in a drug- or alcohol-related crash in Ontario County, and to remind motorists to think about the consequences of their actions.
