An Aurelius road to nowhere will be taken off the county books and abandoned for good.
Blanchard Road, a stretch of highway that runs east and west between Routes 5 and 20, was relocated by the state Department of Transportation as part of work on that intersection in 2003. The project left an approximately 500-foot portion of the former Blanchard Road in limbo — unpaved, unused but still mowed now and again by the Cayuga County Highway Department.
George Wethey, highway superintendent, presented a resolution for county legislators this month to abandon the road and authorize the chairman to execute quit claim deeds of the land to adjacent property owners. The Legislature passed the resolution on Tuesday night.
