Funds available to start up waste plans in Ontario County

Cities and towns in Ontario County can apply for county funds to implement solid waste reuse, recycling and reduction projects contained in the county’s Solid Waste Management Plan.

The Planning and Environmental Quality Committee of the Board of Supervisors will consider a motion Monday to approve a standard inter-municipal contract for those projects in exchange for funding from the county.

The county will be paid $1.3 million a year for 14 years by Casella Waste Services, operator of the Ontario County Landfill.

Casella will make those payments for successfully obtaining a state permit to expand the landfill by 43.5 acres within the existing footprint, extending the life of the landfill until 2028 at current deposit rates.
