Shooting in Commons shocks residents, businesses

Following a shooting in the usually peaceful Ithaca Commons, Saima Rashdi has become afraid to close T-Shirt Express at the end of her night shift.

Rashdi, whose husband owns the store, said she will have to work with another person because of a shooting that happened on the 200 block of East State Street during very early morning hours Sunday.

"I will need another person to come," Rashdi said. "There are some psycho people out here. It's scary."

While acts of gun violence in Downtown Ithaca are rare, a 22-year-old Ithaca man allegedly fired a gun multiple times at a male victim, striking him in a leg and his back early Sunday, police said.
