What you need to know about becoming a ‘rideshare’ driver

Uber is due to arrive in the Rochester area this summer. The ridesharing service is expected to bring hundreds of jobs to the area. If you are interested in becoming a driver for ridesharing services like Uber or Lyft, there are limitations and guidelines involved.

“You want to make sure you have clean, reliable and safe transportation,” said Chad Snowden, a former Lyft driver. “The next thing you need to have is a smartphone and the Lyft app.” Snowden drove for Lyft in the three-months it operated in the Rochester area. It suspended operations in 2014.

For both Uber and Lyft, a valid commercial driver’s license is required. Drivers must also have basic insurance, be 21 years or over and undergo a background check.
