As the legal battle over Meadow View Mine plays out in court, Seneca Meadows Landfill has begun mining soil from the site.
It began this week. North Road property owner Dixie Lemmon, who is surrounded by the mine, said nine trucks arrived there about 7 a.m. Tuesday “and are moving quickly.”
“The dust is flying and there’s no water truck in sight as of yet,” she said.
The mining continued Wednesday until rain halted operations, Lemmon said.
Kyle Black, the landfill’s district manager, issued a statement Wednesday.
“Seneca Meadows committed itself to a 58-acre capping project on an existing area of the landfill last year,” he said. “With an appeal in place regarding access to our Meadow View Mine, we are removing the high-quality clay soils that will allow our team to complete that capping project.”
