Auburn City Council transfers funds to drinking water treatment systems

The Auburn City Council approved a $600,000 transfer to the city’s project to treat public drinking water for toxins related to algae found in Owasco Lake.

These funds will be transferred from the city’s water fund balance to a Water Capital Fund Water Filtration Plant Microcystin Treatment and Water Quality Improvement Project to fund a powder activated carbon water treatment system.

The money transferred from the water fund balance will be covered by the $600,000 announced Wednesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The town of Owasco will receive $800,000 toward the construction of a similar water treatment system.
