The long-awaited tentative assessment on the nearly 7,000 acres at the former Seneca Army Depot that Earl Martin wants to buy is in.
The number is $8,212,600, according to Ann Morgan, assessor for the towns of Romulus, Varick, Ovid, Lodi and Covert. Morgan divided the land into three parcels and assessed each one separately.
The total acreage of the three parcels is 6,899.9 and the total tentative assessment is $8,212,600.
“It’s definitely more in line than the $25 million or so assessment. It’s more what I anticipated it would be,” Martin said Tuesday. “It’s a good starting point.”
“I have to do a full evaluation of the numbers, but this looks more workable. It’s something I could close with,” he said.
Either Martin or the county Industrial Development Agency has the option of seeking a reduction through the Grievance Day process.
