A new playground will dress up Penn Yan’s Red Jacket Park, after a project to install a new playground is complete next week. On May 12, an army of volunteer builders equipped with their own tools (wrenches, socket sets) will build a new $70,000 playground to replace the existing equipment which no longer meets the safety requirements.
The new playground will be built next to the new restrooms that were added to the park recently.
Norm Koek, who is coordinating the effort through the Penn Yan Lions Club, says the local Lions Club with financial support from Lions International is investing $55,000. The Penn Yan Elks Club is contributing $15,000.
The playground is a project of Parkitects, a company that specializes in helping communities develop unique play spaces. The playground at Indian Pines Park was designed by the company.
