New plea offered in predatory sexual assault case

A Clifton Springs woman facing a possible life sentence for alleged sex crimes against children and child pornography charges will be back in court next month.

Janiet Simonds, 26, who was charged in February with two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, a class A-II felony, was offered a deal crafted by the District Attorney’s Office that included an admission of guilt in exchange for a minimum of 26 years to life in prison and a maximum of 30 years to life in prison. Simonds rejected the offer.
