There are major road infrastructure projects underway in central New York, including the resurfacing of a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 81 that passes through Cortland County.
The $13.3 million I-81 project began in 2016 and is continuing this year. The highway will be milled and repaved from South Hill Road in the town of Cortlandville to the Onondaga County line.
Last year, crews replaced the roadway expansion joints and part of the northbound stretch of I-81 was resurfaced. The work this year will focus on paving the northbound and southbound sides of the highway and the interchanges within the 17-mile stretch.
