A new pop-up restaurant in Aurora will open its doors on Wednesday, June 14. Open from Wednesday through Sunday for just nine weeks, Slate is named for the large pieces of local stone that serve as menu boards. “We want to serve something fresh and new every day,” shares Kevin Sennett, Slate’s manager. “Every morning, we’ll literally wipe our menus clean and start again. While we want to give our guests an idea of the kind of food we’re cooking, we want to keep it interesting and different.”
The chefs at Slate will offer one or two sandwich or salads choices for lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and one entrée with sides for dinner each night from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. While the menu changes each day, there are consistent themes for dinner from week to week: Wednesdays will always have an Italian influence, Thursdays will be Asian-inspired, Fridays will be seafood-based, Saturdays will be reserved for Mexican dishes, and Sundays will focus on classic American comfort food. Pint and quart-size deli salads, from Dorie’s chicken salad to potato salad, will also be available on a rotating basis, as will beer and wine.
Slate’s home is in the building on Aurora’s Main Street that housed Dorie’s Bakery. After a refresh this May, Slate will offer eat-in dining on its lakeside patio, inside at a quiet table, or at the counter. Guests are welcome to order and go, as well. “Our meals will all be packaged in convenient to-go containers,” explains Sennett. “We think this will be a great lunch option for friends getting out for the day and an easy dinner choice for families looking for a quick, but still from-scratch, meal together.”
Those looking for a sweet treat or a quick breakfast in Aurora will find both at the Village Market, just half a mile from Slate, next to the Aurora Inn. “We will continue to offer your favorite Dorie’s Bakery items — from morning buns and muffins to our signature cakes and tortes — at the Village Market,” comments Meryl Eriksen, Director of Food & Beverage. “The Village Market opens daily at 7:00 a.m. with freshly brewed coffee, local newspapers, made-to-order, to-go breakfast sandwiches, and more.”
Slate will be open from June 14, 2017 through August 6, 2017, Wednesdays through Sundays, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Located at 283 Main Street, Aurora
