Union Springs culvert fix may come next year

A Union Springs culvert installed by the state Department of Transportation in 2014 likely won’t have a permanent fix for its inability to handle large storm water runoff until sometime next year.

DOT officials inspected the culvert, which runs along Madison Avenue under the Gillespie Chevrolet car dealership, in April following several spouts of heavy rain. Homes on Basin Street were flooded, causing thousands of dollars in damage for some residents.

Union Springs Mayor Bud Shattuck said following a second meeting with DOT and state representatives, engineers have proposed multiple solutions.
